@awl well I love linguistics, and if it wasn't so much work I would have gone to college for it. Instead I'm gonna go back someday for religious studies

@awl well Urdu really isn't even a language, to be fair. I'd go as far as to say that spoken Urdu is more similar to Hindi than various dialects of Arabic are. Urdu and Hindi are easily mutually intelligible, while various forms of Arabic are not.

@awl the relationship between Farsi and Arabic has always interested me and I should probably research it more over time

@awl languages sometimes need to be simplified though. Is evedentiality necessary for effective communication, for example?

@awl I meant that I'd be concerned about a lack of learning resources specific the the Lebanese dialect. Can I ask why Lebanese over another type of Arabic?

@awl well Arabic is a useful language, but I'd imagine learning a specific region's dialect of it might be difficult since it's a standardized language. I don't know much about Farsi so I couldn't give much input in that regard

@awl So often I'm basically the bad cop to her good cop since she's the softer spoken one that tends to try to avoid conflict. I wonder if some people ever consider that if they do come into conflict with her. For her to say something is sign enough sometimes.
