Odd. My laptop's screen wouldn't come on so I could hibernate it before work. Had to turn it off and back on for it to respond.

@redenchilada Maybe it went to hybrid mode ( Which is, so I understand, sleep and hibernation in one. So that if the power does not go down it can go back from sleep-recovery, but if the power goes out it can use hibernation-recovery instead ) however sometimes the video-output goes FUBAR when trying to sleep-recover... Or something...

@critialcloudkicker Nah, I have it set to turn the screen off but do nothing else after a while if it's plugged in. I guess the OS just froze or something *shrug*

@critialcloudkicker @oracle It's called "Safe Sleep" but it's the same thing. Writing memory to disk and then turning off.

@oracle Yes, and this process takes quite some time. That is why Microsoft invented hybrid mode. It is like Hibernation + Sleep + the power does not go out. Since recovering from sleep mode takes less time the system will be back up quicker. Yet if you lose power you do not lose progress of whatever you were doing since you can hibernation-recover back into your work... Or at least that is how I came to understand it

@oracle ... [question to self] does the power go out when the battery dies ?[/question to self] ... Yea I guess so.
Friday, 29-Nov-13 12:24:05 UTC from web -
@oracle but that is configurable, my server is set to do so when it is running on batter.
-
@oracle Oh, well then hybrid-sleep is probably just a failsafe for when the battery is near dying and prevents happenstances where you have your device in "just" sleep modus ( and as far as I know, devices in cleep modus can't hibernate ), still have some work open, have the battery die on you, and you lose some work.
