I actually listened to a ton of Christian death metal when I was in my early teens. I'm still doleed up about Tim Lambesis and his whole trying to kill his wife thing

@rarity I was never crazy about As I Lay Dying to be honest. Some of the guitar work isn't bad but most of their songs feel very typical.

@northernnarwhal well yeah they're not great, but they were my gateway band to extreme metal in general. I still love Impending Doom's early stuff to this day

@rarity Early Impending Doom is pretty sweet, I'll give you that

@northernnarwhal I was really dissapointed when they started doing the whole Job For a Cowboy thing after their first album

@rarity Yeah, they became generic deathcore and it sucked.

@northernnarwhal Generic deathcore still holds a special place in my heart though, again because of being into it when I was younger. Whitechapel was my cherries.

@rarity I was all about that 90s death metal
-
@northernnarwhal I still dig it. Although if I'm going for 90's extreme metal I'd have to choose black metal over death metal. I much prefer the progressive death from the 2000's

@northernnarwhal I make fun of 90s black metal despite owning pretty much every album by Burzum, Emperor, and Darkthrone
