Watching (or playing) anything where guns are actually not just useful but downright necessary makes me want to stockpile them. But not only do I genuinely doubt I'll ever need them, I really would prefer not to sink money into this country's rampant violence industry.
-
@scribus I feel similar, I'd like to own a gun but I don't want one bad enough to be associated with gun owners
-
@rarity Hey hold on a minute here.
-
@awlditzy of course when I say that I mean the average stereotypical GOD GUTS N GUNS American
-
@rarity One can be an exception to the rule instead of missing out on something JUST because of some silly associations.
m14brony likes this. -
@awlditzy yes but I'm an insecure hipster.
-
@scribus Why would you live in USA if not to buy guns?
-
@rarity You know what's not cool? Owning only one gun that cannot be concealed.
-
@awlditzy I don't even think I'm old enough to concealed carry in my state
-
@rarity You probably could get away with carrying a CO2-operated gun. Rarely lethal against big animals like humans or deer or whatever, but it sure does sting.
-
@nerthos I'd feel like a giant tool carrying an air pistol though
-
@rarity Only reason I have a rifle (as of now not in my apartment), is to keep up practise. It was something I was good at and enjoyed. Outside of that I see no point in carrying around a pistol or owning a gun, unless you feel that someone's out to get you at every second you're outside and the only means of protecting yourself is one-upping. If you're genuinely interested on shooting why not start at a range with a rifle and take it from there?
-
@awlditzy I dunno if if the local range rents out guns though
-
@rarity Decent CO2 guns are strong enough for minor hunt, which means you can put lead 3cm into someone's flesh.
-
@rarity If it has a range it definitely should.
-
@nerthos I feel like if I was in a situation where I needed to shoot someone, it seems like a waste to not have lethal force, surely?
-
@awlditzy it's an indoor range though and I don't know if you can even shoot a rifle in there
-
@nerthos Certainly not for freedom of speech or expression.
-
@rarity Good point. Well, they'd have pistols at least (although in my opinion it's nicer to shoot rifles).
-
@awlditzy I haven't done it for a while but I always preferred pistols personally.
-
@rarity Depends, really. Lethal force ensures it won't happen twice, but just causing a wound is usually enough of a deterrent to stop an attack. If given the choice I'd always decide on putting a .45 bullet in the attacker's brain case, but being honest it's often not necessary.
-
@nerthos well I might look into it then. It'd be a helluva lot cheaper to get one too compared to a real gun
-
@ellieellie Different strokes. I never enjoyed pistols mostly because I wasn't good at figuring out their quirks much as rifles. Probably because pistols require more quick decisive action.
-
@rarity Depends on what you're looking for. It surely will be cheaper than a Glock, but I'm sure you can get a serviceable .22 for the same money you'd need for a good CO2. The advantage of the CO2 is mostly being far more silent and cheaper to operate.
-
@nerthos if I were to get a handgun it'd probably just be a Glock since I've heard they're basically idiotproof and reliable
-
@rarity Get a nine that way people will think you're a gangsta
-
@rarity A lot of people despise the grip design.
-
@ellieellie pretty sure most Glocks are 9mm though
-
@awlditzy Pistols are great for indoors or crowded/full of crap areas, but nowhere near as good in open range as a rifle. I do like how easy it is to aim them though.
-
@awlditzy I'd have to get hands on experience before purchasing
-
@nerthos I'm too much a ranged person.
-
@rarity They're really good weapons but they're also pretty expensive compared to other guns. I like Berettas.
-
@rarity This is the part where it shows that I don't really know guns.
-
@rarity ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
-
@rarity Most are, either that or 10mm, .40... maybe 45ACP?
-
@awlditzy I'll probably buy a 9mm as I won't be engaging in any sort of long range shooting and they have enough punch without being bulky or too expensive to operate. As far as personal preference goes though I'd go for an engraved revolver.
-
@nerthos Understandable, and with class!
-
@awlditzy Revolvers are just prettier. Also very reliable, only drawback being carrying only 6 bullets and being slower to reload than a pistol. A good revolver will never jam or stop working though, as the mechanism is pretty simple.
-
@nerthos And if the rounds cook it's slightly less dangerous.
-
@awlditzy Yep, that too.
-
@nerthos I have been primarily using 9X19mm for target shooting and self-defense. It isn't the most potent round out there, but it is enough to get the job done. It is also cheaper than .40 S&W or .45 ACP. For the most part, I have been using the GLOCK 17 and the GLOCK 19 for 9mm usage.
-
@awlditzy Indeed. I enjoy collecting and shooting firearms, and I don't fit any of the stereotypes associated with gun owners (there isn't a conservative bone in my body).
