At least the b-pillars still look good, not mirror smooth but still looks good. Better than any other CS I've seen up close.

@hawloween is that your celica
-
@rarity You bet.
-
@hawloween what year?
-
@rarity 1984 Supra.
-
@hawloween nice! one of the sexier ones from that family
-
@rarity My favourite car since I was 14. Mine is an Ltype automatic and now wouldn't have it any other way.
-
@hawloween If I'd have to choose my favorite car... I dunno I'm not a huge car guy. Probably just the first gen Sunfire since it was my childhood car and IMO it's still sexy AF. American muscle for the everyman
-
@rarity I remember your being somewhat a Pontiac fan. I've been a Toyota fan ever since driving a V30 Camry around extensively. Some of the best cars ever made.
-
@hawloween any fanboyism I have of Pontiac is just from memories really TBH. I know that they were one of GM's lower end lines
-
@rarity Not as bad as Saturn, though. At least there's that.
-
@hawloween My 2008 Corolla is completely devoid of "bells and whistles," but it is utterly reliable and fuel efficient. I ditched American cars due to their lack of long-term reliability.
-
@hawloween I almost forgot that one existed.
-
@hawloween I'll be honest I'm falling in love with this truck of mine too
-
@m14brony The Camry I drove around had 300 000km on it and kept on trucking. I have a similar model year Avalon now with 180 000mi and is truly a terrific car.
-
@rarity The standard gearbox will help with that immensely.
-
@hawloween even though I'm stalling I'm having a grapesload of fun
-
@hawloween I believe my brother-in-law once had an older Toyota of some sort (Camry...not sure). It didn't develop any serious problems until it got past the 350,000 mile (560,000 km) mark.
-
@rarity It's definitely a way to build a relation with a car, having to learn how to handle it proper like. I miss having a standard...
-
@m14brony Everything breaks down sooner or later but back in the 90's they really built them to last.
-
@hawloween just put one in your Supra hehehe
-
@hawloween Everything does break down sooner or later, but a Toyota will keep running long after a US-made car has broken down for good in a lot of cases.
-
@m14brony just saying the truck I bought has 279k miles on it with no issues
-
@rarity See I was going to, but the automatic grew on me... especially after doing a tear-down on it..
-
@m14brony and it's a ford
-
@hawloween well Automatics are obviously more convenient
-
@rarity You've learned quite well in this case :)
-
@hawloween well a little googling will do you good
-
@rarity And this one, despite not being a sporty transmission, shifts quickly, suddenly, and is very very easy to manipulate. The only real drawback for it is that 1st gear is so damned long. Funny thing is that these automatics are more accommodating to heavy power than the standard transmissions in these cars.
-
@hawloween sticks truly are becoming obsolete as autos become much better at performing
-
@rarity considering you can give them 6+ selections in a smaller box, or use a CVT, standards are dying. Too bad, but that's just a nostalgic thing.
-
@rarity Unfortunately, I never had such luck with domestic cars. :(
-
@hawloween do it for the fun of it
-
@rarity Funnily enough, I'll have less trouble doing that kind of swap in the Avalon than the Celica :D
-
@m14brony we'll see how it goes since this is literally my first vehicle I've owned. My family car is a 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan and there haven't been any major repairs needed
-
@hawloween make it so
-
@rarity When I get the room and a junk Solara, it'll happen. Also when the Celica is restored.
-
@hawloween could I see more pictures of the Celica? How much is left to "complete" restoring it
-
@rarity I had a 1995 GMC Jimmy that ran well for a couple of years, but it got to the point where it needed some sort of major repair almost every month. The engine was fine (I think it had around 140,000 miles or so on it), but it developed all sorts of other problems as I moved and regularly commuted 40+ miles a day to and from work.
I had a 1986 Ford Bronco II before that. I had to replace the brake booster, but other than that, it never gave me any serious problems while I had it. It did develop a good deal of problems when it was passed onto one of my younger sisters, but then again, she neglected the hell out of it. It does make me wonder how much longer it would have lasted if it were properly maintained. -
@m14brony as far as I can tell usually GM is much much worse than Ford/Dodge in terms of longevity and overall quality so I understand the GMC problem
-
@rarity All I have are pretty old ones right now, as of right now body wise I need to get under her petrol tank and repair rust, but that's the only bit of visible rust... she needs a new paint job, it'll be the same colours. Trim, also. Outside of that... there's a list of things. http://rainbowdash.net/url/793368
-
@hawloween I guess the restoration will be done after "This next one thing" right
-
@rarity Well, after I have everything for my planned engine rebuild/turbo conversion I'll take out all of that, dig deep into the body, remove/repair all of the rust, and send the rolling chassis to get painted proper, sealed up as permanent as I can make it.
-
@rarity Perhaps. I remember an uncle of mine saying "GM's aren't worth a mangoes." I think he ended up with a Toyota Highlander after having a bad experience with GM vehicles.
