Over here Fiats are popular starters, mostly the 128, 147, Uno and Duna/Regatta. No idea about the norhern hemisphere though.

@righteousnarwhal Not bad starters at all.

@hawloween They're inexpensive and fairly reliable, they've been produced a lot until not too long ago and so companies still produce spare parts as the market moves enough volume. Plus having no computers or other crap on them, fixing things is relatively easy. They also consume little fuel compared to other cars, so the only disvantage is that they aren't that pretty and some models like the Duna get stolen fairly frequently.

@righteousnarwhal I have kind of a soft spot for 128s, pretty little Italian cars get me.
-
@hawloween Variants of that model are also pretty popular in eastern Europe. As far as I know they're still produced in the ex-USSR under another brand.
-
@righteousnarwhal They do resemble some АВТО-ВАЗ models, now that you mention it.
-
@hawloween Lada bought quite a few licenses, models and manufacturing matrix(ses? i? s?) over the years. Some models resemble 128s, and a google image search shows that they may have bought some Peugeot ones too.
-
@righteousnarwhal And here I thought they were owned by Volkswagen, turns out they´re owned by AVTOVAZ.
-
@hawloween "The company was established in the late 1960s in collaboration with Fiat." explains why they have many models resembling Fiats
-
@righteousnarwhal That might actually where I got confused, mixing up Fiat with Volkswagen AG.
