@hawloween Oh, if only if only... summum bonum feels too idealistic for this day and age.

@hawloween If more people loved eachother the world would be a more promiscuous place.
-
@righteousnarwhal That's likely exactly what Tommy Wiseau wants. I mean, if you watch like the first half hour of The Room like half of it is sex scenes. Very very awkward ones.
-
@hawloween That probably means I won't be watching it any time soon.
-
@righteousnarwhal Too bad because it's worth it if you like laughing at terrible cinema.
-
@nethernarwhal Idealism is too idealistic, man. I'd rather apples the world than love it.
-
@hawloween I already have quite a big list of stuff to watch.
-
@righteousnarwhal Actually I still have to get on the list of anime I was suggested. Finished Cowboy Bebop like two weeks ago.
-
@hawloween Idealism is naive, cynicism is counterproductive, you need to strike a balance.
-
@nethernarwhal Well you might now how keen I am on finding balances in all aspects of life.
-
@hawloween While religiously I would consider myself agnostic, a lot of my worldview is to an extent influenced by classical Buddhism.
-
@nethernarwhal I have to say I took in a lot of Tengerist ideas that were more or less implemented after Buddhist influences in Mongolia, but I do refer to myself as a Tengerist.
-
@hawloween Tangerine? are you a fruitkin?
-
@righteousnarwhal my pronouns are mango/pear/tomato.
-
@hawloween I guess the difference is I'm very attracted to the non-theistic philosophy of Buddhism, as well as its concept of impermanence.
-
@hawloween I'll call you nutjob
-
@nethernarwhal Oh I like both of those tenants, but I'm also a pretty big nature worshipper, so Tengerism seems to have just fit. Essentially it talks about every single thing on this earth having its own spirit, and nature is of high reverance.
-
@righteousnarwhal That's what she said (☞゚∀゚)☞
-
@hawloween How much did she charge
-
@righteousnarwhal Just enough to feed and clothe you
-
@hawloween Oh yes, animism.
-
@hawloween Ha, witty. Though as a representative of the Corner and Alley Workers Union, I'll have to raise a formal complaint to the Pimpin' Council regarding the underpaid condition of some workers.
-
@righteousnarwhal I read most of that in Snoop's voice.
-
@hawloween That is pleasing.
-
@hawloween I was sold when I first discovered mandalas. There's something so awe inspiring about spending countless hours toiling away to create a fastidious masterpiece only to cast it away, symbolizing the ephemeral state of the universe.
-
@nethernarwhal I don't think about these things as much as I used to.
-
@hawloween I've developed a casual interest in contemporary philosophy as of late
-
@nethernarwhal I've just been wasting my time on memes.
-
@hawloween I'm sure you've seen and experienced a hell of a lot more in your life than I have though
-
@nethernarwhal Maybe, maybe I'm just tired of thinking about things that typically get me down. I really am not serious much as I used to be.
-
@hawloween It's probably for the better, I'm worried I'm slowly ostracizing myself from people I know with my studies
-
@nethernarwhal And here I was starting to do the opposite until recently, difference there is school yes but no studying.
-
@hawloween I dunno, I guess I've been going through a lot in the past year or so and I've been trying to really think for the first time.
-
@nethernarwhal Well, yeah that's when it hits you. When I was definitely losing the house I couldn't really think of anything other than how my life has gone thusfar, the things I believe versus the things I do, and well it bummed me a lot. Actually is why I deleted my old account. I was getting so depressed, and angry, that I just wanted to walk away from everything that was somewhat good in my life.
-
@hawloween I think considering I'll be moving out in the near future and I have so many critical life choices I'm going to be making within a very short timespan, as well really the person I am vs the person I want to be. I'm very self critical and have dealt with issues of ego for as long as I can remember, so I really want to sort myself out.
-
@nethernarwhal Talking to a like-minded one here, man. That's all I used to do, is try to sort myself out.
-
@hawloween I don't even know what I'm looking for anymore, but I know I can't stop searching until I find it. I've taken on the Socratic Method of questioning everything presented to me.
-
@nethernarwhal I do that a lot, try to figure out people's intentions, read into what they say to find a message conveyed, try to understand their thought process. You're just looking because it fancies you for now.
-
@hawloween Maybe even if I admit to the pointlessness of existing I willingly relinquish to a sort of primal human instinct to find justification.
-
@nethernarwhal If you do indeed find something be sure to let us know.
-
@hawloween The closest it seems for me is my drumming
-
@hawloween I figure the holistic completion of human beings is self imposed, but I could be wrong
-
@nethernarwhal Probably what served as the closest thing I had to that is something I really can't do any more. Just will have to settle for a substitute.
-
@hawloween I'm sure you will find something new, we all do.
-
@nethernarwhal It could be my returning to work on Maycan, when I really get into it I sit back in awe and think, it's really becoming something people could use.
-
@nethernarwhal I think the issue is mostly based on believing existing is pointless.
-
@righteousnarwhal I just believe it's an incredibly entitled perspective to believe such a miniscule individual in a brilliant and endless cosmic sea could assert so much self worth unto itself as to impose it's own existence serves something other than itself.
-
@nethernarwhal With that mentality you'll always feel like everything you do is pointless and in turn you'll never fix your self steem issues.
-
@hawloween Even if they don't, if you experience fulfillment from it yourself you've not at all failed.
-
@nethernarwhal Oh I know better than to think myself a failure even if most of my life has just been seemingly pointless tribulation.
-
@righteousnarwhal Isn't it, though? It's where my conflict started. That, upon realizing the futility of pointlessness, I act but in mere self interest, but by self awareness is criticism counters my intrinsic greed.
-
@hawloween Yeah, "failure" is just a less progressive way of saying experience.
-
@nethernarwhal *my
-
@nethernarwhal You'll have to switch philosophies or you'll be doomed to live and die finding your life a waste of time.
-
@righteousnarwhal So why are we here, Nerthos?
-
@nethernarwhal In my particular case, I have a few goals and justifications: acquiring knowledge, bringing torment to evildoers, and furthering the cause of humanity. Though a general reason for being here on earth is either simply coincidence, or deliberate evolution, leading up to our genes being formed. We are thrown into this world and it's up to us to use our skills so that our species outlives the rest.
-
@righteousnarwhal But are acquiring knowledge and pursuing those who disagree with your standard of ethics not self imposed justifications? Doesn't it feel like restricting your premises to Earth is also a bit unfair. You speak of the importance of preserving our species yet we've existed for less than 1% of time itself as measurement.
-
@nethernarwhal How long we have existed is irrelevant. Something being new doesn't make it unimportant. We have the capacity, unparalelled by any other species yet encountered by us, of taming everything we come into contact with. If we as a species succeed, our existence will end only when we evolve. Justifications must be imposed by us, in our search for greatness. The universe hasn't shown signs of being sentient, thus it can't give us one.
-
@righteousnarwhal That just seems like such a selfish way of thinking, as if the universe owes us anything. Those are just my thoughts anyway, I'm off to sleep now.
-
@nethernarwhal Selfish isn't necessarily bad. Plus the thing is, the universe doesn't owe us anything, but it offers us the challenge of conquering it.
-
@righteousnarwhal You make valid arguments, I feel it's just a difference in idealogy for us. Which is great actually, it's always interesting to hear the thoughts and personal philisophies of others.
-
@nethernarwhal i'm just presenting ways of seeing the world that could help you.
