Then again the large sonoral inventory of maycan doesn't preclude it from having words that sound the same yet have different meanings.
-
@awlkhalyan well, in polish, państwo can mean both "ladies and gentlemen" and "country"
-
@kumo pań is like a way old slavic (west) term for nation or tribe.
-
@hawloween then they shouldnt used it to reffer to ladies and gentleman >_>. they have over 30 letters in their alphabet and there is a ton of dfferent ways to write the same sound, they could have thought of something better
-
@kumo actually i was wrong before, "pań" can mean lord or king. I believe "Pan" is a very formal address to the second person too.
-
@awlkhalyan pan / pani means Mister/ miss. but My teacher says that is how they treat everyone, like the San thing in japanese, maybe
-
@kumo i'll trust it coming from someone who is actually learning polish instead of one who brushed on it a while back.
-
@hawloween yes, she says they get offended when you treat them as Ty
-
@kumo so it's much like saying "m'lord/m'lady" but more extreme.
