I went and saw two movies at two different theaters in two different cities tonight. I call it the roadtrip double feature

@rarity which movies?
-
@northernnarwhal The Breakfast Club 30th anniversary one night screening, and It Follows.
-
@rarity how were they?
-
@northernnarwhal TBC was obviously awesome. And It Follows was a pretty great horror film, GORGEOUS cinematography (like seriously Fluffle Puffing amazing) and a decent concept, pretty solid suspense, and a ton of little things you don't even notice until you've left the theater and are thinking about it. It's one of those that isn't top tier right after the credits roll, but the more you think about it the better it gets. 8/10 probably the best horror film in a few years since that genre has been grape lately
-
@rarity Yeah, most decent horror films these days are either fusions with other genres or downright horror deconstructions.
-
@northernnarwhal tbh this has a little of the deconstruction too. The whole concept of the film is the "teenagers who have sex die" trope taken to its maximum. But it's mostly fresh
-
@rarity That sounds good. I think a lot of directors and writers take for granted that horror is genuinely one of the most difficult genres to write well.
-
@northernnarwhal I would say that this movie is a good horror film, but the biggest problem about it is that it's not going to keep me up at night, it's not one of those kinds of films
-
@rarity Or maybe you're just desensitized to that kind of stuff. I don't think I've ever had a horror film keep me up.
-
@rarity It didn't keep me up but I will definitely admit that MH was spooky as Potato Knishes. Go figure a small Youtube pet project could handle incredibly raw atmosphere in its writing and directing better than most major films in the genre.
-
@northernnarwhal I should probably buy the DVD if it's still around. Although I don't know if it will have the same affect as clicking through the youtube videos
-
@rarity Yeah, admittedly part of the aesthetic charm was watching through it with the suspension of disbelief that it was an actual channel.
