If you were curious, here's the original pilot, animated by MacFarlane over the course of 6 months with a relatively tiny $50,000 budget. Most of the voices were done by MacFarlane and his sister, Rachael MacFarlane, known for doing various voices on shows like Codename: Kids Next Door.

@mrmattimation oh my god, their bodies are moving
-
@mrmattimation Did they re-animate this later? I feel like I've seen it, but in a more congruent style....
-
@scriba Pretty sure it's normal for pilots to be made into the actual first episode. Bob's Burgers' pilot is the exact same as the series premier except Tina is no longer a dude
-
@tiffany well not exact same
-
@tiffany Could be, then. I know I've seen pilots that have no relation to canon first episodes, but I guess I've probably even seen some that are the first episode and I didn't even know it was a pilot. Or something.
-
@scriba That's actually the only example I apparently have
-
@tiffany Well, the only one I can think of off the top of my head is "Twin Peaks," which was initially released as a stand-alone movie in case it didn't take off and then was cut into the first episodes, which didn't end up on the first DVD release because of ownership arguments, and and and and.... Yeah, I guess I don't really know snakes from batcaves about pilots. Huh.
-
@scriba I should watch Twin Peaks probably
-
@tiffany I dug the hell out of it.
-
@scriba I really need to start watching Game of Thrones, since I basically swore I would after finishing Firefly, but now I'm watching Futurama all the way through lel
-
@tiffany Hey, Futurama ain't nothing to not watch.
-
@scriba That it ben't, that it ben't
-
@scriba When the full series was commissioned, the episode was redone with new character designs and more animators. Still very rough animation though.
