Well, The Europa Report was just a waste of time.

@awltheidiot No way, I loved that movie! Sci-fi with the emphasis on the Sci? Hell yeah!
-
@scribus Really? It just kind of felt like it was trying to be The Abyss but more 'tragic' to me.
-
@awltheidiot Huh. I felt like it was "Interstellar" without a sudden halfassed romance angle.
-
@scribus Oh I didn't see that one, and yeah there was a lot of facts about Europa and Jupiter in it. Feasible stuff, which was nice. Maybe I wasn't appreciative of the very final part so much is all.
-
@awltheidiot I admit, it did kind of wind to a sudden "oooh, scary monster" kind of end, but overall I think I gave it 4/5 on Netflix. But then, even if it hadn't ended like it did, it still would probably have been bittersweet at best. It reminded me of a book I tried to read that just got too far up its own ass with BS hard science and stopped being fun. "Rocheworld," I believe it was. Except "Eurpoa" stayed entertaining to the end.
-
@scribus Also likely doesn't help that I'm not as heavily into science fiction as I am fantasy, but at least it taught me a bit about the fact that the planet and at least that particular satellite has actual water. I didn't know that before.
-
@awltheidiot Yeah, I think the actual scientific science did probably add a star to an otherwise 3/5 movie for me....
-
@awltheidiot And seeing actual news involving current investigation into Europa has augmented the film for me in retrospect, too.
-
@scribus Of all the news I pay attention to, space might be the lowest priority if not sport. Regrettable with space. It can be really interesting.
-
@awltheidiot Eh, at the same time, the development of a star system estimated to be almost exactly as old as the known universe really does lack practical application in the "how do I eat and pay rent this month?" end of human life.
-
@awltheidiot And I probably would pay slightly less attention to space if I didn't have a sci-fi trilogy on the back burner.
-
@scribus Well so does following the Greek referendum or the wildfire in the Chernobyl containment zone.
-
@awltheidiot Holy grape, there's a wildfire in Chernobyl!?
-
@scribus On that note I decided to watch Firefly or at least the first episode. Now I know where 'gorram' comes from. Kind of interesting, the mix of western and sci-fi.
-
@scribus Yeah. Preliminary estimates show it spreading Caesium137 into the air round that area as well. Belarus is going to suffer. There's talk of Russia helping Ukraine try to stifle it.
-
@awltheidiot heheh, yeah, it's a fun one. I mean, you need to come to it rather open, because "old west" and "distant future" do seem strange bedfellows, but the frontier aspect binds them together better than one might expect.
-
@awltheidiot God damn; that's mangoed up.
-
@scribus I don't know, Cowboy Bebop pulled it off but there's more going on for that than just those two things.
-
@awltheidiot I still need to get around to that one. Dear Netflix, stop trying to make crap like "Fuller House" and obtain stuff that's already good.
-
@scribus Took me forever to find the article in English over it http://tass.ru/en/world/805494
