  1. Kind of curious as to what @rarity's opinion on Communist Yugoslavia is, as in how it worked versus the Soviet ideal. I don't know much about communism outside the latter but I do know Yugoslavia was more or less free-market.

    1. @awlelwa Sadly I know basically nothing about Yugoslavia, beyond that Tito is a very controversial figure in leftist circles. As far as Warsaw pact members go I'm /slightly/ more knowledgeable of Albania, but honestly I only learned about it to understand the dank communist memes http://rainbowdash.net/attachment/827406

      1. @rarity I know Albania kind of took the PRC approach and for it, as well as the smaller association with Tito, wasn't on the best of terms with the Soviet bloc.

        1. @awlelwa Well I don't think it was without lack of trying on the Soviets part. Basically from what I understand, Hoxha and the party in Albania were fearful of Yugoslav invasion, distrustful of post-Stalin USSR because Hoxha thought that the /Soviets/ thought Albania was too dogmatic in its socialism. So the guy turned his eyes east for allies, which probably created problems with the USSR and Yugoslavia where there previously was nothing besides paranoia. No wonder Hoxha built 1 bunker per 4 Albanians, the dude was terrified of getting sandwiched.

          1. @rarity You are right from what I understood as well; and Hoxha is probably the most venerated communist leader of all of them to this day, at least by his people.

            1. @awlelwa The guy was a little off, but I think he was just trying to do right by his people.

              1. @rarity And he did, and he wasn't as off as Ceausescu nor anywhere near as 'evil'.

                1. @awlelwa I feel a little inspired to write a historical fiction about Eastern Bloc countries coming out on the better side of Soviet collapse. I'd have to do a lot of reading though, on how I could conceivably make Albania and Yugoslavia become strong allies
