So I read an article talking about how, yeah, our world population is "Hella" and only growing, but it is mostly because of longer lifespans - overall, the birthrate is decreasing. So, eventually (in a "soon" sense) I guess old people will die off and leave us underpopulated. Not sure I believe it, but it was something to think about.
-
@scribus oh yeah I saw that, pleasantly surprised
-
@tiffany It should be interesting to watch it play out (on my phone (in the bathroom (at work (because I can only escape my job in brief increments (and am unable to live life firsthand due to work))))).
-
@scribus "underpopulation" is like saying "not enough streptobacillosis" tbh, I'm all for it
-
@scribus Romania had a big problem like that after WWII and they're still fighting to "fix" their underpopulation; one of the communist dictator Ceaušescu's more famous edicts was to force people to have kids.
-
@awl is it that guy who made illegal all the birth controll methodes including abstinence?
-
@mushi that was part of the edict yes.
-
@awl I've heard Japan is facing this issue, too, and is trying to encourage people to move in to fix it.
-
@tiffany Truth, yo.
-
@scribus to be fair I do agree with what nerthos said for the most part now that he's reminded me of it
-
@awl i heard about him in the personality psycology class. pretty crazy guy
-
@mushi definitely one of the more interesting cases of dictators, becoming more known to the west.
-
@scribus difficult at best when there's problem after problem, not to mention citisenship or even asylum there requires quite the dance to obtain.
-
@tiffany Yeah, so do I, but I still wouldn't cry if there were "only" five billion of us or so.
-
@scribus oh heck no, sounds way better
