    1. @moonman I hate how this kind fluid of animation is becoming a lost art here in the west... Everything is either CG or over simplified noodle arm grape.

      1. @dolus @moonman Anime > Western from what I've seen.

Although I haven't really watched Western toons in a while now.

        1. @moonman @dolus There are some BAD animations in anime, I won't deny that.

          1. @normandy @moonman Anime used to be considered choppy compared to western animation, but these days our mango is even worse.

          2. @normandy @dolus honestly for the most part anime has lost a lot of what got me into it in the 80s and 90s. everything feels like it fell into comfortable cliches. replacing hand inked and painted cells with computer painted also made everything feel antiseptic and inert.

            1. @moonman @dolus 90s anime do have their appeal; I still enjoy stuff like Cardcaptor Sakura and Ranma 1/2 every now and then.

              1. @normandy @moonman I still dust off my old Slayers DVDs on occasion.

                1. @dolus @moonman Being honest I haven't watched a lot of 90s anime these days. Really should though.

              2. @normandy @dolus Magnetic Rose was like, hard sci-fi mystery thriller. One thing about some older anime is you can see how they hired animators that were huge nerds for things like spacecraft or automobiles or guns, and made hand-drawn, hyper-detailed versions of those things. The cars in Riding Bean are accurate, down to internal parts, scenery etc in Angel Cop are very well rendered.

                1. @moonman @dolus Moe I don't mind as much but I cringe when hearing the "cutesy" voice.

        2. @normandy There's some good stuff like steven universe but western animation is nowadays stuck in a "let's make everything as gross and ugly as possible" stage while anime has stuck to a somewhat consistent and appealing style.

        3. @normandy @moonman I occasionally re-watch stuff like All Dogs Go to Heaven and The Secret of Nimh and my heart breaks a little. It's a shame that almost no animation of that calibre is being made anymore.
