Why are there paralympics? What are we training them for?
Saturday, 17-Sep-16 21:51:47 UTC from web-
@tiffany Because people with physical disabilities want to do sports too but are either at a disvantage (like blind people at ball games) or advantage (people using leg prosthetics at athletism) depending on the sport when matched with normal people, so they made a second set of olympics so they can compete fairly as well like any other athlete.
-
@nerthos I know but I had this stupid joke in my head that we're preparing them for some sort of terrible disaster or something
-
@nerthos I still think that we should add a "steroid" league to sports for the same reason.
-
@scribus That'd work if not because steroids have a real chance of killing you so the moment we stop frowning on them, the moment athletes start dropping cold everywhere.
-
@nerthos Well, they already do as soon as they retire from the WWE.
-
@tiffany Well to be fair certain disabilities give you advantages in certain combat areas. For example having no legs means you have less circulatory risk in fighter jets and other high gravity environments.
-
@nerthos Let's send them to space
-
@tiffany Nyoom
-
@scribus Do wrestlers count though? they don't actually do anything, they just pretend and do pirouettes.
-
@tiffany to become space marines
