  1. !vgp Spec Ops: The Line looks like another generic shooter. All the commercials make it look otherwise. I'm pretty torn.

    1. @carcino The other "spec-ops" games played terribly.

      1. @abigpony Wait, it's a sequel?

Tuesday, 03-Jul-12 04:40:05 UTC from StatusNet Android
        1. @carcino It's a series, yeah. It's not a direct sequel or anything.

                    1. @carcino I didn't because I was busy playing Gamecube at that point in my life.

                        1. @carcino I had a PS2, but I never played it. I hate most PS2 games. I think my time was split between Super Mario Strikers, SSX: on tour, and Guitar hero 3. I still need to get guitar hero again.

                          1. @abigpony On my PS2 I had Alien Hominid, Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, Viewtiful Joe 2, Metal Arms (totally a game I recommend) and Guitar Heros 2 and 3.

                                    1. @abigpony No, but i'm pretty sure it is among the original xbox games you can play on 360.

                                          2. @wafers I know. The controller was just too odd for me to be attracted to it. I guess you could say the same about the gamecube.

                                            1. @abigpony The gamecube controller is also odd to me but I love it for some reason. Not as odd as the N64 controller.

                                              1. @wafers Hey, the N64 controller had probably the best design I've seen. I'm not even joking.

                                                1. @redenchilada I do miss the blisters one would get from rotating the joystick for 10 years playing mario party.

                                                  1. @wafers Ok, the joystick had issues, but otherwise the design was superb.

Tuesday, 03-Jul-12 05:16:56 UTC from web
                                                    1. @redenchilada and even then the joystick was the first of its kind. You couldnt expect anything TOO amazing.

Tuesday, 03-Jul-12 05:24:15 UTC from web

                                                              1. @techdisk42 The Wiimote and Nunchuck were designed for very specific kinds of games... ones I find myself playing less and less. :(

Tuesday, 03-Jul-12 05:27:21 UTC from web

Tuesday, 03-Jul-12 05:29:47 UTC from web

Tuesday, 03-Jul-12 05:31:49 UTC from web
                                                                  2. @techdisk42 The remote by itself works decent enough for platformers, and the nunchuck helps with certain games, but the flooding of cheap gimmick games with motion control has kind of turned me off from most games that use it. And that's kinda the Wii's big selling point, y'know? :/

Tuesday, 03-Jul-12 05:32:33 UTC from web

Tuesday, 03-Jul-12 05:33:52 UTC from web

            1. @carcino I prefer shooting something besides the same respawning enemies over and over and over again.

    3. @carcino !vgp In terms of gameplay, Spec Ops IS a generic shooter. It's the story, and the way that the story is told that makes it great. You know, if you care about that sort of thing.

        1. @carcino !vgp Instead of the typical "Buck yeah, American war hero!" storyline of most MMS games, Spec Ops takes the "War is hell" approach and really drives it home. || You are sent on what initially seems like a rescue mission, only to find yourself caught in an active war zone with no idea which side (if either) is "the bad guys", and having to defend yourself against both. || There are cutscenes -- perhaps a few more than strictly necessary -- to drive the story forward, but most of the story is told through in-game chatter between yourself and your teammates. || The game also allows you to make choices (with consequences) through the gameplay, rather than through any RPG-style dialogue. "Do I shoot this guy, or let him walk away?"; "Do I use this rocket launcher to clear the room of hostiles, or do I try to find another way around?"; "Do I go in guns blazing? oops, I just gunned down a civilian who was running for cover."

          1. @puzzlemint @carcino !vgp In short, Spec Ops is a shades-of-grey style game that does its best to make you feel like crap. Which is refreshing, in a morbid kind of way.
