@nerthos I told people exactly this kind of cherry would happen if they voted in Trudeau. No one listened.
-
@maiyannah No one ever listens. They'll always say that we're exaggerating, ultra conservative, or whatever. Then 5 or 10 years pass and people are freaking out about what was warned beforehand.
-
@nerthos Pretty much. In our case the media had painted a Harper as such a villain (unjustly so but when did the media worry about being truthful?) that people were so desperate to get in someone new they basically voted in a huge authoritarian. We've lost more rights in the last year than the past decade and a half.
-
@maiyannah It always happens. I remember in 2010 being 17 and telling my teachers we'd have a crisis both social and economical here if kirchner was re-elected and they dismissed it. Then it happened exactly as I had said. Which is kinda sad if you think about it, 17 year old boys knowing better than 40something teachers who are supposed to educate kids.
-
@nerthos A lot of people are so heavily invested in their chosen dogmas and 'heroes' that it takes a lot to break them of that, and when they do get broken out of it, people flip out as a result
-
@maiyannah Let's just agree that universal, unrestricted vote is a bad idea all around.
-
@nerthos Eh, I don't mind it in that people get exactly what they voted for. What needs to change is people taking responsibility for that. Because whatever the system is in place, they ultimately are the one to blame for it.
-
@maiyannah I wouldn't mind if we weren't dragged down with them. I never minded people hurting themselves, but I do mind when they hurt others.
-
@nerthos If someone actively brings on something that is harmful I warned them about, I will have been intelligent and prepared myself for it, while they would not have, so it ultimately isnt me they've harmed.
-
@maiyannah Sure, you can be ready and minimize damage, but things are still worse for you than they could have been if others weren't idiots. Maybe it's bias but I could never stand things going less than optimal because someone decided to be willfully incompetent/ignorant.
-
@nerthos If you only accept optimal circumstances then you will accept literally nothing in this life.
-
@maiyannah Oh, sure, I accept it, doesn't mean I have to like it, and if I could take away the willful idiot's right to vote, I would.
