  1. You know I actually don't think the whole inflating user numbers thing is a good idea because it makes people feel like they aren't valued as individuals in the community.  They're just a number, a metric.

    1. @maiyannah RDN probably has some 40k+ registered users despite having a few active users nowadays, and IMO the smallishness of the community has always been one of the nicest parts about it

      1. @nerthos It's hard but not impossible to have a sense of community with a larger community, but it takes a lot of doing and an admin that's able to resolve the conflicts that will invariably arise.

        1. @maiyannah For a big community to be tightly knit it requires a focused topic within the site. RDN had this as it started as a fansite, so all users would have something in common. It also happened with some of the older nodes that were tech or code oriented.

          1. @nerthos SomethingAwful for as much as people slag it off had this for a long while.  Nowadays it's kind of full of itself though.
