  1. Huh, Square Enix sale weekend. Just Cause 3 + DLC is $22.

Rise of the Tomb Raider + DLC is $24 and that seems like a better game with less issues, but I dunno which game I should get, if any.

    1. @gameragodzilla Personally I find the Tomb Raider games very average but they're better than Superman 64 2

      1. @maiyannah I have the first game, err, the first, I mean second reboot.

I have the 2013 game in my backlog. Haven't played it yet but I love Uncharted so I might enjoy this game but I'm not sure.

        1. @gameragodzilla I couldn't say I thought it was amazing or feel the urgent need to replay it but I enjoyed it when I played it.

          1. @maiyannah How would it compare to Uncharted? In terms of gameplay, story etc.

            1. @gameragodzilla I enjoyed it a little more actually.  I felt like the survival element while a bit rudimentary gave the story a feeling like it tried to tie in at least a little more with the mechanics, whereas in Uncharted the mechanics and story are fairly separate.  A lot of people seem to have problems with Lara as an antagonist but I don't generally.  There is a bit of ludonarrative dissonance as you get into the latter third of the game and Lara is still being portrayed as struggling when by then you're fully upgraded and not much is a challenge, but I think that's less on the characterization and more on the difficulty curve being a bit meh.

              1. @gameragodzilla There's a scene where it's implied if you fail a QTE event Lara gets raped, but it's handled as tastefully as that kind of thing can be.  Nonetheless the usual suspects had a field day complaining about it.

                1. @gameragodzilla Though it is a little strange because it's one of like ... three QTEs in that game, at least which I remember, I might be forgetting others (it's been a while)

                  1. @gameragodzilla That's the first one though, that QTE.

                2. @maiyannah I remember hearing about that. Apparently if you fail the QTE, she just gets choked to death. What kind of survival gameplay is there? I know there's apparently hunting but what else?

                  1. @gameragodzilla Basically the Farcry thing of kill animals to craft things, though it's a lot more sensible about what you have to gather to make something than Farcry was.

                    1. @maiyannah Gotta kill that fluo pink tiger to make a loincloth. No other animal is worthy of Conan.

                    2. @maiyannah Ah, you mean it's more sensible than the game that required me to kill 3 sharks so I could somehow carry more ammo?

                      1. @gameragodzilla Yeah, the stuff you have to kill makes more sense in context.

                        1. @maiyannah That's good to hear. I hope they don't lock too much of the content behind the progression, though.
