We're the true soul of the federation: a loosely affiliated crowd of people with diametrally opposing points of view and conflicting opinions, each of us with ideas that at least a few of the rest find awful, yet held together by a fondness for free conversation. It's funny that some of the bigger nodes try to hide us away for being what the fediverse should be.

@nerthos They fear what they cannot control.

@maiyannah Diversity is good but only when it's not too diverse

@nerthos Well the reason the Fediverse works so well is the same reason they dislike it: we cannot force "victories" in arguments or greater social conflict through the abuse of administrative tools to suppress and censor, so they have to engage normally and actually convince people. For most of this, this fosters interesting discussions, even if we sometimes disagree. But for the authoritarians on instances like Mastodon, it brings only fear, because they cannot "punch nazis"
It's an even playing field.

@nerthos did you like ur own post mister

@rw No, I repeated it. I use the SPC account so some of my RDN posts are visible in nodes that don't federate properly with this one like FZP and SLC

@nerthos
I agree. I like this aspect... we don't have to agree with everything other people say, and sometimes we'll even argue our points about a topic. But instead of shunning people for that, we move onto another discussion and can still interact at a different stage. We're not going to agree on everything, and it doesn't have to divide people... there can still be common ground.
