And one plot point that is pretty topical these days is basically how the Empire arose out of the desire of a segment of people to replace a functioning democracy with something else because they felt it had failed, and a dictatorship arose out of a man taking advantage of that sentiment.

The Republic was a corrupt and ineffective organization that nonetheless attempted to serve the galaxy, and because of that corruption people sought to replace it and got essentially a ogliarchic theocracy instead and the aggressive suppression of anyone who dissents with those views.
Can't imagine what parallels there'd be with real life of course.-
@maiyannah sheev saw that the end of the Jedi and hokey religions and the death of a few crybaby morons would unite everyone under a common banner. The only rule of the empire was don’t betray the empire. They had galactic schools, military, and workforce. The rebels were a bunch of entitled jerks whose ignorance destroyed Alderaan and killed countless innocent people because they wouldn’t stop killing stormtroopers

@rw @maiyannah one would argue that utilizing your iron grip on the universe by destroying an entire planet (and getting away with it) is a huge overstep of power and begs the question: "what equals betrayal in the eyes of a benevolent force?" And "how long until that definition changes tocfit someone elses views" also sheev shoots lightning from his fingers and that's pretty evil lookin' if you ask me.
