i know none of you give a kiwi because proprietary
but discord is what happens when wealthy software companies hire mostly developers
slack is what happens when wealthy software companies hire mostly sales people
matrix is what happens when no one gets paid

@rw I hope you include designers in developers, because the UX or both discord and slack are on a pretty damn good level even if they both disappoint me in many other ways
-
@shpuld yeah i generally just meant a focus on the application versus a focus on sales
-
@rw with riot you can tell there are developers around that clearly are capable of something, and some ideas of what the application needs, but the overall design is just crap and all the features are implemented in very awkward ways
it's the gimp of chat applications-
@shpuld i feel you. there's a lot of stuff going on there that could work if it just worked. nothing is where i expect it to be and it's inconsistent across platforms.

@shpuld slack hasn't seen a real update since 2014 - it still doesn't have a dark mode and it's generally a pain in the ass feature wise because "it's meant for teams" simple stuff like dm blocking and etc aren't even considered. they're just been focused on jamming it down corporate throats. I used to like it when it first came out but it's clear where the priorities lie
-
@rw oh yeah I don't really see anyone wanting to use it for anything but internal communications stuff, not fun random chats, in that way I think it's a very different beast to what discord of example is. I think both achieve what they are trying to do very well, but I still hate it how slack grabs half a gig of ram on my work machine

@rw On the topic, is the spc slack thing still up? I tried to login after like a year of not doing so and it gave me a login error
