  1. So the Wii U still won't have any sort of achivement system. I know it's not a big deal, but it's also kind of sad.

    1. @ceruleanspark Wait, you mean people pay attention to achievements/trophies? I mean, they give you a few goals to shoot for but that can easily be replicated in-game.

      1. @redenchilada That's what I mean by saying they're not a big deal, but equally, it wouldn't exactly be difficult to implement them. If Nintendo wants to actually push the Wii U as a modern console with a use outside of entertaining small children, they do need to actually make some effort.

      2. @redenchilada @ceruleanspark Games should have a limit of just 5 really hard achievements, make them more appealing to show off, for example: carrying the garden knome all the way through half life 2 episode 2, THAT is an achievement, not "changing your appearance in the armory"

        1. @purplephish20 "Take the painting all the way back to the safe house after planting the fake" was the best missed opportunity for a trophy in the Sly Collection. :T

        2. @purplephish20 I've never had a problem with easy achievements. I know they're only there because MS requires that you have a set number. I don't feel like there being easy ones lessens the achievement of the hard ones.

          1. @ceruleanspark Yeah I never have, I'm just thinking about the idea of giving them more sentimental value, becoming something you really worked hard to achieve.

            1. @purplephish20 Personally, on the subject of achievements, I like "beat the game" achievements, but not "beat a section of the game" achievements (unless the game has distinct parts, i.e. SA2's hero/dark stories). I especially like "beat the game while doing X" achievements. But in general, the achievements aren't bad as long as ones you get through a regular playthrough don't make up more than ~1/3rd of the total achievement count.

            2. @purplephish20 I was a pokemon master. Now that is sentimental value. I generally find that Live Arcade or Indie titles have the best Achivements, as they're only allowed 20 or 50 points, so they actually make the achievements hard to get.

              1. @ceruleanspark I agree, some achievements, usually from smaller companies have the most originality, like the ride the wind achievement in bastion, you had one shot at it technically (saving and reloading doesnt count) and if you were careless you were screwed. Not quite as indie, but the Boar bather achievement in brutal legend was something amazing too
