@widget I make a point of not installing updates unless neccesary. I just install the service packs, otherwise the updates make the system run slowly.

@widget NTFS hasn't caused me problems to be honest. I've only once seen the filesystem be damaged and I managed to fix it. For sensitive information I just make a backup to have two copies of the file in different hard disks in case one of them dies, but that's it. Usually chdsk or Partition Magic can solve any issue with the filesystem.
