  1. YES. It just needs the ability to load not 1 but 2 GBA cartridges simultaneously in split screen mode so that players can trade pokemon. http://hyperkin.com/blog/2013/03/retron-5-details-revealed-from-the-midwest-gaming-classic/

    1. @pony That controller looks like a repetitive strain injury waiting to happen

      1. @ceruleanspark People seem to hve some sort of obsession with squarey anti-ergonomic controllers

        1. @notthefbi I think it's nostalgia. "My wrists hurting reminds me of when I was a kid!"

          1. @ceruleanspark I was honestly never too fond of old style controllers.

            1. @notthefbi The mega-drive controller was hell on my wrists during extended Streets of Rage and Gunstar Heroes sessions.

              1. @ceruleanspark I remember it being bad for the hands after playing too much. I ended up with a PS clone controller after damaging a couple controllers.

      2. @ceruleanspark as you said, nostalgia!

    2. @vt3c big companies would like you to believe that they have exclusive rights to sell consoles, etc. I understand that after a number of years copyrights expire

    3. copyright laws are messed up. How does Disney still have ancillary rights for Mickey Mouse?

Monday, 19-Aug-13 22:03:37 UTC from web
      1. @pony Because it's a character, not a technology. Tech patents expire after a couple decades. Characters and other fictional IP doesn't as far as I'm aware, since it literally gives nothing to humanity or the governments to have something so trivial free of copyright and all that fuzz.

        1. @notthefbi That's quite logical.

      2. @pony Because they've used Mickey Mouse in so many of their recent properties I guess? I dunno.

        1. @zeldatra Patent law and ancillary rights and other copyrights all vary I guess.

    4. @vt3c .... or.... and stay with me here, they RENEW the copyrights.

Monday, 19-Aug-13 22:05:29 UTC from web
      1. @flamingpandaomg @vt3c I mean they can only renew for so long or something

Monday, 19-Aug-13 22:09:00 UTC from web
    5. @vt3c Maybe it has to do with changes they've made to his (and others') characters over the years.

Monday, 19-Aug-13 22:05:31 UTC from web
    6. @vt3c @flamingpandaomg I don't believe they're allowed to after a certain amount of time, but I'm only speaking from something I heard from a teacher years ago, and, honestly, I don't think even academia has a complete understanding of copyright law.

    7. @vt3c @pony You wouldn't copyright a console. You'd patent it and the technologies it uses.

Monday, 19-Aug-13 22:09:16 UTC from web
      1. @ceruleanspark That makes sense. IP has me throroughly confused.

        1. @pony Which I believe is exactly what companies want so that people won't try to benefit from free use content.
