Twilight, not really having clearly-defined long-term goals, studies and studies with no clear terms for success (though short-term consequences of failure is always apparent). Twilight doesn't realize her destiny is to become a pretty purple princess public timeline until the last episode. So don't look at the last episode as a dysfunctional info-dump. Look at it as conflict: Twilight is tasked to finish a spell and after failing the first time threatens her friends' well-being. The consequence for succeeding was for Celestia to reveal why Twilight is doing all of this extensive studying and training."}
