Untill the 8th century or so then scribes wrote &quot;uu&quot; whenever they wanted to write something with a &quot;w&quot;, untill that was phased out for the &quot;Wynn&quot; symbol, which looks like the letters P and D had a rough night together. So at this point I am just happy we're calling it &quot;double you&quot; and not &quot;SuPer Dee&quot; ... Oh and it also had something to do with old typewriters not having a &quot;w&quot; so they would write &quot;vv&quot; just like how some typewriters do not have a &quot;\u00df&quot; ( it's a German thing ) so they would write &quot;ss&quot; so... ... ...
