Plenty of religions worship gods in other ways.  Who's to say that Celestia's royal treatment isn't the Equestrian religion?  ALTERNATE HYPOTHESIS: religion is not practised because she's God and she's sat right there.  Like how in Watchmen no-one makes superhero comics any more because superheroes exist."}
