Because, in my humble opinion, since the Links section in the sidebar is sitting there, perfectly capable of holding such links, and the primary nav needs to be compact to avoid confusing potential new members... (I <i>have</i> occasionally seen people wondering why their accounts here didn't work on the RP site.)
