Around the time CS6 was released, they offered a subscription-based service as an optional alternative to paying the one-time fee. It was much cheaper on the short term than paying the one-time fee, but it was a recurring price that would last forever or until you canceled your subscription. With this new version, they completely dropped the option to pay a one-time fee, and now they only offer their programs through monthly payments.
