It's cool to have pony shirts that you wear and collect stuff. Now, if you start carrying plushies with you everywhere you go, or shove it in people's faces, <i>that's</i> obsessive and pretty annoying. But that's the same with any other thing, like Pokemon or videogames or stuff like that.
