In Britain, (with the exception of Northern Ireland,) it is general policy that <a href="http://rainbowdash.net/url/748583" title="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Police_use_of_firearms_in_the_United_Kingdom" rel="nofollow external">police officers do not carry firearms on their person</a>, and the results are conclusive. Gun crime is extremely low.
