They can either kick the extrapoint (also called a PAT (Point after touchdown)), or they can attempt a risky play to get 2 extra points where instead of kicking the ball they will try to do another play to get the ball 3 yards into the endzone.: They can only kick the ball on PATs and if its 4th down, and they dont think they can get another 1st down and they can try for a 3 point field goal. If they are out of tange for a field goal on 4th down they can either choose to punt the ball (what is usually done) down the field so the other team starts farther away from their endzone (which is where they need to get to score), or the can risk the other team starting close to scoring range and go for a first down by doing another play
