I'm not criticizing romance, or shipping. I like both when it's done well, and the story is actually more than just "circumstances that cause these two horses to do the kiss". I honestly do believe, however, that most MLP shipping fanfiction is not well written, and mostly fan service. Does that mean I think shipping is bad? No.
