Aside from the notoriously long cutscenes, the gameplay is your pretty standard stealth gameplay with some third person shooter/action elements in later installments. The story itself is really strange and convoluted, but you can generally draw some coherent themes from them so they're at least somewhat worthwhile in that regard. It's usually a love it or hate it kind of series.
