There is an arbitrary classification of certain &amp;quot;assault type weapons&amp;quot; one needs a &amp;quot;Permit to Purchase&amp;quot; (and be at least 21 years of age) to obtain (this permit is also required for handguns), but if I recall correctly, one can get that permit free of charge by applying at a police station.  The concealed carry permit doubles as a &amp;quot;Permit to Purchase.&amp;quot;  Restricted NFA items like suppressors were recently legalized in Minnesota, but there is the typical federal red tape associated with applying to get one.  Minnesota is a bit more restrictive than some other states when it comes to genuine full-auto and selective fire guns (they have to meet Curio &amp;amp; Relic classification), but those are so expensive (supply and demand distortions caused by Ronald Reagan closing the NFA registry on such firearms in 1986) I will never own one of them anyway.</html>
