I joined once a social network (it failed) just because all my friends were there. I never used that to be honest. Later everyone switched to facebook and tried to persuade me to get there too. I plainly refuse to create an account there. Once I do that all my family will harass me with friend requests and stalk me. Twitter/GNUsocial/Tumblr are more compelling and anonymous for me to enjoy.
