Not sure exactly what caused this one, other than, &quot;It was overdue.&quot; As far as the correlation between atmospheric ionization and major earthquakes, I do believe that there is a link, but I don't think that it is anything nefarious, and I don't think that the ionization even causes the quakes, but rather amplifies them when a region is already unstable. None of this is terribly pony-related, though, so I won't bore you (and everyone else here) with numbers and dates and maps and etc. ;)
