Virginians keep claiming blackface was never acceptable in Virginia but they conveniently forget that it literally was, and for much longer than in other states. Virginia was the state that caused the Supreme Court to rule that you can’t legally ban interracial marriage for crying out loud (and then they still banned it for years after that).
