  1. Semi related note I have never been in a supermarket that was above 295 degrees K. I guess this is somehow a requirement when you have a lot of products on the shelves that can possibly spoil ?

That and to offset the heat that some of the fridges emit on the backside.

But I guess it would be really entertaining to watch coca-cola bottles violently explode when someone leaves them out in the unloading section for too long.

Its probably not going to affect consumers in a big way.

  2. @thismightbeauser This is unlikely since room-temperature is too low for most if not all biodegradeable plastic to actually biodegrade ( Room temperature is about just short of 300 Kelvin, compared to 325 at which most biodegradeable plastic I know needs to start degrading ).

I guess the biggest caveat is 'is it actually better in the long run ?'. People more read in on this topic than I am are still fighting amongst eachother on that.

My biggest gripe is that biodegradeable plastics will do NOTHING for the ocean-problem, even if all the plastic that is currently in the ocean were to change into some sort of biodegradeable plastic over night ( by means of magical fairy, genie, monkeypaw, time-travel-shenanigans, quantum-flux-destabilisation, or unexplainably )... The oceans are too cold to decompose that mess.

Other problem is that if you were to just throw biodegradeable plastic on a landfill it is actually more toxic for the environment due to methane-emissions.

  4. @scribus Yeah Yeah, that is why I did the eyebrow thing. I mean, Cmon, I can imagine a big strong black woman packing all sorts of heat and being really hot in the process.

Then again I can also see a guy being a total C-word ( which is not an offensive word in Australia ) ... I can also imagine that being hot

  6. @mrmattimation For putting down something in a store while you look at some other products and then possibly forgetting about the first product ?

Does that mean if it were up to you I would go to jail for that one time I accidentally left a can of beans in a open-top fridge ?

Would it be better or worse if I said the thing exploded ?

  7. Would you call a ship with the callsign BLCKDCK-001 a "She" ? I mean the Captain just did and I think laughter killed the Science-Officer.

Weird quip to put in your game, but I guess I can see what they were going for.

  12. Only question I have left on my mind is whether to pack a Beamer/Projector or not. I mean the thing is pretty old and I will not miss it if it dies. BUT it is pretty useless untill it becomes dark enough outside. I could just pack a monitor I won't miss if it dies.

What am I going to use it for ? Well Jackbox of course. As well as whatever else that can be played over HDMI with a somewhat large group of idiots.

  13. @adiwan Condolences ? Nah this is going to be great. Unless if people actually die that is. Probably fine, I mean it worked last year.

Though I did had the idea of iso-blankets like 3 months ago but I never actually ordered any. Too bad, I could have used like a hundred or so. Ahwell pretending to be a plant and squirt myself will have to do, especially at siesta time.

  14. @drinkingpony My condolences. I'll rather stay at home, shut everything down and not sweat to death or die of a heat stroke. I just used up all my rescue blankets and decorated every window I can with its silvery reflective goodness to keep the heat outside.

  15. @adiwan I am going to camp on those days :D

If I was not so terrified about the possibility of people dying when they put up their tents I would be making a joke about it :D

I also have to 'survive' there for some 11 days.

  17. Modeled a dust shoe for my CNC so I can directly suck off all the dirt and dust instead of dispersing it into the environment. I have to 3d print it and find appropriate bristles. Also I'm not sure if a pressure fit and cable ties will hold it firmly enough. The existing spindle mount doesn't allow very much in that regard. http://rainbowdash.net/attachment/874955

  18. @thismightbeauser Actually I am sure that pretty much all recycle programs are bad on the human psyche. A lot of people think "Hey I can use this and feel less guilty ( or even good ) about the environment"

Fictional halfwit : "Recycled plastic bags ?"

  20. I did some dailies in a game that is all about big stompy mechs. What I got for it was a Lanner Falcon to sit on top of my comm-terminal.

... Why would any mech warrior take a bird into his cockpit ? At least yesterday I got an oscilating fan as cockpit item. Now that has some uses, I mean it does not do anything for the game as far as game mechanics go, but at least it oscillates... Menacingly... Mostly when I fire too many weapons and my vision becomes blurry, too many alarms go off, and my butt gets too hot.

  21. It is called Unstable Unicorn, it is not that hard, you start your turn, do all of your ongoing events, grab a card, play a card, end of turn.

Please stop obsessing over my amount of unicorns, I only have 5. I need 7 to win. Stop overanalyzing what I am doing, heck I might have to sacrifice them to Cthulhu before your next turn for all you know. You have been taking like 10 minutes on this one turn. THIS IS NOT YU GI OH AND YOU ARE NOT THE PHARAOH !!! Neither is this an interactive spreadsheet on what COULD happen. ARGH, play a card already.

    - Me just a couple minutes ago while playing a cardgame

This guy who was obsessed with the prospect of me winning did not even get to see me win.

  23. @drinkingpony Bakelite is a type of plastic. Many products were made of bakelite until modern plastics like ABS were invented. And it will destroy itself because it lacks any endstop switches but I will install some that I have laying around. The pro aspect of it is that it has support for lasers and the spindle is a bit more precise. I will test it when I come back from work.

Friday, 19-Jul-19 08:56:38 UTC from web in context
  24. @adiwan I do not know what bakelite is. Nor do I know what that circuit boards looks like but I guess that is where the pro comes from ( picture please )

Now you might want to check before you begin if the thing is 'smart' enough to not go out of bounds and destroy itself. I did a little bit of reading on them machines.

  25. @nerthos Here is a stupid idea... Try hairspray.

Nono, not on them, remove them first and then see if hairsprayed components inhitbit their growth.

Also, have you considered that it is not fungus you are dealing with but some form of oxydation ?

  26. @mrmattimation Pretty sure if I got to vote either her or Carly Fiorina from the 2016 elections, Marianne Williamson would get my vote. However these are not the insanity-elections.

But they will be known that way by half the country or more if 'he-who-shall-not-be-named' gets a 2nd term.

  30. It is constructed! However it is too late to power it up. My eyes are tired enough. First impression: It's cheap and it shows at every corner. Despite the "Pro" in its name it feels far from it. The front (and back) plate where the rods and screw rod for the table are attached to is made of bakelite. I expected aluminium. On the other hand it seems to be thick and sturdy. The only real bummers are the plastic spindle holder and the plastic holders for the bushings for sliding on the rods and the plastic screw rod nut holder. I'll test it tomorrow or so before my complaints get any validity. I mean I got what I paid for: A cheap CNC for cheap money. Baby's first CNC. http://rainbowdash.net/attachment/874944
