Yeah. I think it also helps to have something to compare either side with... so you know what free and restricted speech entails. Like life, free speech has the good, the bad, and the ugly. When you are exposed to them, it can help you to learn to navigate them better... or to appreciate your own freedom better.
When you're unsure about your own views because they have shaky foundations, it is never fun to have them torn a part... whether they are right or wrong... but even that can help. It gives you a chance to check them again, to see whether you need to change them completely, alter parts of it, or have it reinforced without needing that because it is right. Check your premises, as they say.
