It keeps light from degrading the wine, is a better thermal insulator, has a 0% probability of making the wine taste like cork and has a much smaller chance of breaking into sharp fragments and cutting your veins making you bleed till you go into shock and eventually death.

@awl First date unless you're already close to the person in general should be focused on showing you're an interesting and entertaining person while sounding common interests to focus second date around, so it's mostly casual stuff that can't usually go wrong. For most people that is, some are really serious about those things or have specific tastes, but those are the minority.
