@skellythos as i have said before part of the english language's inherit beauty is that it is not phonetic in its spelling. It shows word roots so far better that way.

Which seems preposterous; i have yet to meet a truly illiterate american whose first language is english. Maybe bad spellers but that rather goes with the english language territory.

More interesting than the idea of a phonetic spelling in English movement existing in America beforehand is that such a movement exists even now, citing the same reasoning of illiteracy being a big problem.
