  2. @toksyuryel Be warned; it is pretty much a given that at least one of your first few games will end with !everythingsonfire. Heck, that's half the fun. :)

  4. @toksyuryel Pretty much. I almost didn't go through with that one because I felt so bad. As far as my thoughts on it go, the optimum path is [sp]fnir Mhys naq rinphngr[/sp]. #

  5. @toksyuryel Oh hey, since you're online right now and it seems like it'd be your kinda thing: ever tried !Brogue? It's honestly the most fun I've had with a roguelike in a while (I'm actually kinda annoyed I didn't find it earlier).

Thursday, 12-Jul-12 18:20:56 UTC from web in context
  6. @rozeluck Huh? I've completed it via all four ending paths (2 choices with 2 options = 4 possible paths), and I'm pretty sure it's always "Setting Sail, Coming Home".

  7. @toksyuryel Strangely, my favourite song is actually one which I've not yet encountered in the game itself: The Pantheon (Ain't Gonna Catch You). It's on the soundtrack album, but I can't say I remember ever hearing it in-game.

  8. I'm honestly not seeing anything on the Steam sale that both interests me, and didn't interest me enough to buy it at a higher price (or on an earlier sale if it's not new). Ah well, it's early days yet.

  9. @purplephish20 I didn't see the page yet, but I kinda figured that when my Steam client started hanging and crashing out whenever it tried to talk to the mothership. Really hoping this stability problem is just temporary. :/

  10. @toksyuryel I set my sail, fly, the winds they may take me, back to my home, sweet home.

  12. Okay. Assuming no more ideas invade my brain, good night for real.

  13. Well, sort of. I'm going back to bed shortly, but the first time I tried I suddenly had an idea that didn't want to be left until tomorrow: http://bigmacintosh.net/brogue !brogue

  16. It occurs to me that I should post a link to my !broguerecs folder in the group, so the link isn't so hard to find: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/srifo5ihabdxnth/vguf0PeRow

  17. @minti Aaand dead for the last time tonight, since I'm going to bed now. New recording's in the broguerecs folder, too. (This time it's "tentacle horrors oh my".)

  18. @minti It was a spider before all this, so I'm not sure I made a good choice. Trying my other wand, only to find it was a wand of beckoning, didn't really help either, but I did somehow survive it all. :D

Thursday, 12-Jul-12 06:22:19 UTC from web in context
  19. @minti Luckily, the same wand that got me into this mess (unknown, turned out to be polymorphism) got me out of it. :)

  22. Oh dear, maybe drinking the first potion I found wasn't the best idea. "It must have been a potion of creeping death." (The best part is, I actually found two of them in the same room.) !Brogue

Thursday, 12-Jul-12 05:13:07 UTC from web
  25. @minti Plus most potions have slightly different area effects to personal effects (for example, drink a potion of descent and you just teleport down a depth level; throw one, and you make a temporary pit that opens onto the next depth level), and it can be fun to just throw them anyway.

Thursday, 12-Jul-12 04:59:55 UTC from web in context
  26. @minti Of note is that it doesn't have to affect you. If you're not sure of a potion, and not in a safe place, try throwing it at an enemy. If it's a bad effect, you just attacked. If it's a good effect, well, you get another hilarious death/near-death experience. #

Thursday, 12-Jul-12 04:56:05 UTC from web in context
  27. @minti Resets. Once your adventurer has encountered it in a run and seen its effect, they'll recognize it on sight (well, some roguelikes have a rare amnesia effect that wipes ~1/4 of your discovered items), but each new run resets all the appearance/effect pairings.

Thursday, 12-Jul-12 04:54:32 UTC from web in context
  28. @minti It's like Nethack without all the "wait, what does this do? *checks wiki* ohhhh".

Thursday, 12-Jul-12 04:52:40 UTC from web in context
  29. @minti Also, I have now died to the goblin that the totem hasted, so that one's now in the folder as goblins.broguerec if you want to watch me basically eat/drink everything I find, and generally endanger my own safety. :)
