  9. @mushi I was going to bring that up, actually. Reminds me a lot of Braid, and it's my personal favorite 2D platformer. Oddworld does not count, that is a cinematic platformer

  10. @northernnarwhal I love it and I love everyone at Nintendo Software Development group for all their work, including Splatoon, despite my distaste for the difficulty of the game due to personal experience in poor matchmaking.

  11. @northernnarwhal Anyway, I want to say Animal Crossing is my favorite game of all time but... it's not really. I love it dearly, though.

  14. @northernnarwhal Yeah, I thought the game set itself apart from something like DmC: Devil May Cry in that it's incredibly stylish and smooth.

  21. @northernnarwhal Journey was such an emotional rollercoaster, especially for people like me, who played Flow/Flower before Journey was released.

  24. @northernnarwhal Aw man, breaking that game down is fun. You start to feel a connection to these colored sqaures and rectangles purely through narration. If the narration wasn't there, nobody would have felt for these shapes and therefore the one-two impact ending wouldn't have meant nearly as much. It's brillant.

  26. Speaking of 2d platformers with brilliant stories, I though Thomas Was Alone had a very meaningful story, if you looked into it.

  27. @bobo Not the best theory, but I think it's something to think about. At least, it's a more literal interpretation.

Wednesday, 15-Jul-15 23:26:44 UTC from web in context
  28. @northernnarwhal Oh, it absolutely is a metaphor for the atomic bomb. No doubt. But I think, with the theme of the final chapter being pattern breaks, it can also be interpreted as the "pattern break" for a story as old as 1985: Super Mario Bros. The game is pretty much a retelling of Super Mario Bros., at least gameplay-wise. The only time the game "ends" is when you realize you are the metaphorical "Bowser," and when you, as the metaphorical "Bowser," catch the princess in the final level. Those are not supposed to happen in a feel-good Mario game, so the game "breaks" saying, "No, that's not how the story goes." It could have been an atomic bomb, or a paradox. That's how I view it personally.

  29. @northernnarwhal Ah, I forgot about that. Will do in the future.

Wednesday, 15-Jul-15 23:18:55 UTC from web in context
  30. @northernnarwhal I also believe that Braid's "true" ending is the alternate "100%" one. The one where you catch the princess and she explodes, crashing the game.
