@mrmattimation And people who say stuff like that usually aren't total dicks. But people feel too entitled in America sometimes regarding driving responsibilities and reactions to things. Like, him saying that is so stupid at its very base because, number one, he probably doesn't actually WANT his car totaled, but that's what would happen. Then he could be underpaid by the insurance (assuming he has any), and if he incurred any medical costs, there'd be THAT debt as well. To say "well if he hits me, it's his fault" completely skirts the fact that car wrecks are complicated legal matters that can truly cause a headache for YEARS on end. I know from experience.
