@conventrix ...can we ever be sure what [i]our [/i] languages sound like from the outside? I struggle to think that English is a particularly charming language from another perspective. But anyway... each to their own!

@pawnheart English is a pretty nice language is well spoken, though it's mostly misused. Still, it's necessary to know at least two, since no language covers all needs. There are things I can't say in Spanish but I can in English, and the other way around.

@nerthos Italian may be my first port of call. I listen to a lot of Italian music, and a lot of the best art books are in Italian... and I want to go on a geek-out art tour there too!

@pawnheart Good! Italian is pretty nice, I would like to learn it, along with German, Russian and Latin. Also Chinese, Japanese... in fact, I would like to learn them all xD

@nerthos Yeah, there's others I'd like to learn too, Spanish being one of them (I studied it for a couple of years at school... but I'm afraid I didn't get on very well)

@pawnheart Spanish is pretty difficult to learn if you're a native English speaker, mostly because there are lots of conjugations and things like that. The language is only good when you master it, if you just know a bit of it, like most people (even native speakers, sadly) it's pretty limited and boring.

@pawnheart Really? I'm pretty surprised. I often find myself wondering what word is the right one to use. At least I'm pretty handy with words, mostly due to my habit of making unnecesarily complex paragraphs.

@conventrix You know Italian, so you have a Latin base, and since both languages are derived from Latin, you have a natural comprehension of it. I know almost nothing of Italian, and yet I'm able to understand like, half of what I hear of it.
