So yesterday I decided to check a bike store and ended up on a 45 minutes long conversation with the owner. Turns out the guys are building their bikes from scratch.

@nerthos that makes them even cooler.

@awl Yeah. We ended up talking about industry and stuff, the guy turned out to be a nationalist, and he went around the city making arrangements to have almost all the pieces for the bikes built around town. He then started designing the bikes and building different models in sort of an evolution ladder until he built models that were up to all regulations.

@nerthos a nationalist definitely worth his salt! I love to hear of companies that maintain not only a presence but actual business in their hometowns.

@awl They have a site, though it's in Spanish. http://www.lowridercycles.com.ar/index.html

@nerthos oh! A different company than the one you linked to previously.

@awl Yeah. I've digged through story on the other one and even though they used to make really high quality stuff, whilst they remain decent today, quality has gone down a bit since the original owner died.

@nerthos a shame. Well, patronage to a real local company's a good way to go, as long as they're of good quality too.

@awl After almost an hour of conversation I can say the guy I talked to has an actual love for bikes.

@nerthos did he mention as to when he started making bikes? Didn't see anything about history on the website.

@awl Didn't ask for an specific date. I'd say four to seven years.

@nerthos sounds like business model's working.

@awl Yeah. Their stuff is a bit more expensive than mass-produced models, but the availability of spare parts, customization, and having repairs done by the guys who designed and built the stuff makes up for it. The guy also explained the reason my dad and I were seeing so many people with cheap scooters/low cc bikes without lights: there seems to be a trend for crappily done electrical installations on the cheap bikes. Which made me consider setting up a small workshop at home fixing said electrical stuff, which requires knowledge I already have and a minimal investment to start.
Sunday, 09-Mar-14 21:25:11 UTC from web-
@nerthos that'd be expected, manufacturers of cheaper bikes skimping on the electrical "peripherals". From the looks of the site they are heavy into customisation. King of like OCC but better because it's still local.

@awl They have a wide range of parts on store to choose from when buying a bike, which is certainly nice. Seven or so "standard" handlebar options on the wall, three or so different tanks, and so on.
