  1. So. AM band pirate radio station with a 1-mile range: worth $300 to create, or a total waste of butts?

    1. @scribus in this day and age you'd likely get in trouble for terrorism or some papayas

    2. @scribus Total waste, and actually pretty obnoxious to anyone who is trying to use that frequency band. I used to have one of those iPhone radio-tuner thingies that let you wirelessly broadcast your music to your car stereo and all of the allegedly "clear" bands were blocked with pirate radio broadcasts.

      1. @cinnamonswirl I had one, too, but on FM, which surprised me.

      2. @cinnamonswirl But anyway, I was initially looking into basically the same thing, but for my house; that's when I found i.AM.radio and that it has about a 3k foot range, up to a mile with an antenna, still (according to the website, anyway) within FCC regulations, no broadcast restrictions for hobby/personal use.

    3. @scribus ah yeah that's also really annoying to radio people. Just today even, our live church broadcast was distorted because someone was on the same band as the transmitter they use to broadcast to our station
