@nerthos After 28 years, we've finally got a toy of the token girl character, because they feel comfortable selling those to children now. It's become a running gag every year to ask Hasbro panelists if they're making a new Arcee.

@nerthos Yup. The bigwigs have, for the most part, decided that they only want to sell male robots to little boys. There were absolutely no girls in the 80s toyline, and only the scant few here and there in the 90s onwards.

@nerthos We have a culture in which we raise boys to only play with toys of males and girls to only play with toys of females and then flip murdock when gayness happens.

@scribus Actually I watched a documentary a while back where they'd done a study that showed the opposite is true; gay men had wanted to spend time playing with girls' toys in youth while lesbians had more destructive play patterns than straight little girls.

@scribus Obviously it's not going to be as cut and dry as all that, but I thought it was interesting that they'd found it was, more often than not, an early manifestation of homosexual tendencies rather than some sort of... psychological cause. Less "Barbie dolls turn boys gay" and more "gay boys may want to play with Barbies". Certainly I was always raiding doll collections when at the houses of female friends.
